Here's A List Of 52 Things That Are Totally Okay
Mental health affects people across all ages, genders, sexual orientations, skin colours, and all walks of life. This week marks Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, and this year’s theme revolves around body image. Given that it’s one of our most talked about topics here on The Unedit, be sure to take a browse through our past content – especially our category, Body Talk – and see how wonderful the vessel that carries you through your life really is, regardless of what it looks like.
Something that’s bothered me a lot lately and has directly impacted my mental health has been expectations and where, what and who I’m supposed to be at this stage in my life. So, with that in mind, my contribution to Mental Health Awareness Week is a list of things that are totally okay.
It’s okay if you have no idea who you are.
It’s okay if you have no idea what you want to do with your life.
It’s okay if you don’t have a plan.
It’s okay if you aren’t who the people around you want you to be.
It’s okay if you make a choice, even if others disagree with you.
It’s okay if you can’t please everyone.
It’s okay if you slept in late.
It’s okay if all you did today was get out of bed.
It’s okay if you spent your weekend in your pyjamas.
It’s okay if you feel like your friends’ lives are accelerating at a different speed to your’s.
It’s okay if all you did today was just survive.
It’s okay if you take a week to reply to text messages.
It’s okay if you need to cry.
It’s okay if you change your mind.
It’s okay if you want to be alone.
It’s okay to do absolutely nothing.
It’s okay to speak out. About anything.
It’s okay to let go.
It’s okay if you’re feeling burnt out.
It’s okay if the love of your life didn’t turn out to be the person you thought they were.
It’s okay if you opted for another day of dry shampoo rather than washing your hair.
It’s okay if you spent your day procrastinating.
It’s okay if your day/week/month/year hasn’t gone the way you wanted it to.
It’s okay if you feel lonely.
It’s okay if you haven’t got round to doing the dishes from yesterday.
It’s okay if you don’t have your shit together, even if everyone else seems to.
It’s okay if you’re struggling to cut the toxic people out of your life.
It’s okay if you’re too scared to cut the toxic people out of your life.
It’s okay if you you’d rather stay in.
It’s okay if you think your anxiety *seems* to speak more truth than the people around you.
It’s okay if you go off the grid from time to time.
It’s okay if you break down. We’ve all been there.
It’s okay if you’re not happy all the time. Nobody is.
It’s okay if you’re finding it hard to move on.
It’s okay if you haven’t got round to changing those lightbulbs just yet.
It’s okay if you want to talk about your feelings.
It’s okay if you need to ask for help.
It’s okay if you haven’t done your laundry.
It’s okay if you didn’t make your bed.
It’s okay if you you’re not the ‘adult’ that you think you should be.
It’s okay if you slipped up. Tomorrow is a brand new day.
It’s okay if you relapsed. Nothing is easy.
It’s okay if you made a mistake, regardless of how big it is.
It’s okay if you feel rejected by someone.
It’s okay if you’ve been betrayed by someone you never thought would. Things will get better.
It’s okay if you just need to stand still for a minute.
It’s okay if you want to slow down.
It’s okay if you’re feeling defeated.
It’s okay if you don’t know which way is up right now.
It’s okay if you find yourself questioning every little thing. You’ll get your answers in time.
It’s okay if life isn’t perfect. It doesn’t have to be.
It’s okay if you’re not okay.
Wherever you’re at right now, whatever kind of person you are, whichever kind of life you’re living, it’s okay. You’re okay. You’re going to be okay.
