Meet Danielle Herrington: The Third Black Woman To Ever Get A Cover On Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue
Sports Illustrated has become increasingly popular for boosting the careers of models the world over, notably in more recent years the likes of Ashley Graham and Hunter McGrady. Just last year, they announced that they were launching a more size-inclusive swimwear line, and so SI are actively making giving more bodies a platform their responsibility. One thing that they've lacked over the years has been the number of women of colour who model in their magazines, even more so those on the cover.
2018's Swimsuit issue's cover star is Danielle Herrington, who appeared in last year's Swimsuit as a Rookie, and has been making big steps as a swimsuit model ever since. Herrington is now the third woman of colour ever on the annual's cover, following Tyra Banks in 1997 and Beyoncé in 2007.
The 24 year-old shot with the magazine in Fiji, but didn't know that she was appearing on the cover until she was invited to the Sports Illustrated offices under the guise of a separate project. There, she was walked into a studio where Tyra Banks stood before her and broke the news to her, which you can see in this super emoshe video below.
We're looking forward to seeing what good things follow both for Danielle and for the future of SI Swimsuit!
